Lent Discussion Group
March 7, 2022 | 1:30 PM - April 11, 2022 | 2:30 PM
MONDAYS AT 1:30PM | Beginning MARCH 7
Lent is a season of preparation for Holy Week which is marked by Good Friday and Easter Sunday. This time of preparation can take many forms. Some people like to use the spiritual practice of fasting (i.e., giving up something) and others like to use it as a time to take on a spiritual practice (e.g., praying, reading the Bible, etc.). These practices are all designed to help us get closer to God and deepen your spiritual life.
This year our worship series, and reflection activities will be based on Kate Bowler’s work, “A Good Enough Lent”. Kate is a Canadian who works as a Professor at Duke Divinity School. After being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at age 35, Kate has done a lot of writing, reflecting and talking about how we live a full and meaningful life when we don’t get the life we want. Life can’t always be about ‘getting better’ or ‘striving for more’. Sometimes life just happens and we have things that happen to us that we would never choose. As many options as there are in the self-help section of the book stores not everything can be ‘helped’ away. As we move through this series, we’ll explore how we are enough and God is enough.
A weekly discussion will be held each Monday at 1:30 pm for about 1 hr via Zoom . There is a Lent Guidebook with daily readings, reflection questions and a prayer. It’s good to have this and participate as much as you can but you don’t have to have completed everything to come to the discussion group. If you’d like a copy of the booklet, please contact the office at office@clarksonpc.com or download it here. You can download the weekly reading schedule here. Everyone is welcome!
