But what exactly did Jesus do to save us from our sins? Why was the cross necessary\, and what does it mean for us today? In “Savior: What the Bible Says About the Cross“\, Magrey deVega faithfully describes the need for reconciliation between humankind and a holy God through Jesus’ death on the cross. The Bible uses many images to understand the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection\, and deVega guides us through these images to achieve a richer understanding of the Christian faith. By exploring the mystery of salvation through the cross\, we can deepen our love for God and others and strengthen our commitment to follow Jesus.\n\nEveryone is invited to be part of a study group.\nClarkson\, Dixie\, Erindale and St. Andrew’s are working together so you can pick the time and place that suits you best.

SUMMARY:Lent Discussion Group
DESCRIPTION:MONDAYS AT 1:30PM  |  Beginning MARCH 7 \nLent is a season of preparation for Holy Week which is marked by Good Friday and Easter Sunday. This time of preparation can take many forms. Some people like to use the spiritual practice of fasting (i.e.\, giving up something) and others like to use it as a time to take on a spiritual practice (e.g.\, praying\, reading the Bible\, etc.). These practices are all designed to help us get closer to God and deepen your spiritual life. \nThis year our worship series\, and reflection activities will be based on Kate Bowler’s work\, “A Good Enough Lent”. Kate is a Canadian who works as a Professor at Duke Divinity School. After being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at age 35\, Kate has done a lot of writing\, reflecting and talking about how we live a full and meaningful life when we don’t get the life we want. Life can’t always be about ‘getting better’ or ‘striving for more’. Sometimes life just happens and we have things that happen to us that we would never choose. As many options as there are in the self-help section of the book stores not everything can be ‘helped’ away. As we move through this series\, we’ll explore how we are enough and God is enough. \nA weekly discussion will be held each Monday at 1:30 pm for about 1 hr via Zoom  . There is a Lent Guidebook with daily readings\, reflection questions and a prayer. It’s good to have this and participate as much as you can but you don’t have to have completed everything to come to the discussion group. If you’d like a copy of the booklet\, please contact the office at office@clarksonpc.com or download it here.  You can download the weekly reading schedule here.  Everyone is welcome!   \nDetails on how to connect are in the weekly eNewsletter or by emailing Rev. SUMMARY:Indwell Welcome Packages
DESCRIPTION:Clarkson Road will be lending support to Indwell\, which is a Christian charity that creates affordable housing communities that support people seeking health\, wellness and belonging. Indwell’s vision statement “Hope and homes for all” ties directly to the call to love our neighbours. \nIndwell’s new “Lakeshore Lofts”\, located in Port Credit\, will be opening for new residents in January. You may have noticed this distinctive building\, painted with blue waves\, on the north side of Lakeshore\, near Cawthra Road. The Compass will be moving into a new space on the first floor of this building early in the new year. \nOur plan for December for Faith in Action is to create “Welcome Packages” for the new residents of the building. We will also be providing additional items for some of the residents who are moving in with few possessions. \nWe will be collecting the items on the list below during the month of December.  (The list will be updated weekly to show how many of each item we still need). \nHow you can get these items to us\n\nDrop them off at the church during the Sunday service.\nDrop them off at the church during Karen’s office hours (Thursdays\, 10-12).\nLeave them at the front door of the church (outside Gale’s office) at any time when the church is closed and our custodian\, Tom\, will bring them inside.\n\nWHAT WE ARE COLLECTING  |   QUANTITY REQUIRED\n(These quantities are updated weekly and reflect what is still needed)\n\nPaper towel (2-pack)  |  36 pkgs\nKleenex boxes  |  82 boxes\nToilet paper  |  68 rolls\nDish soap (800 ml or larger)  |  59\nHand soap (liquid)  |  61\nTea towels (new only)  |  74\nJ-cloths (package of 8)  |  COMPLETE\nScrubbing sponges  |  49\nRe-usable shopping bags – large (new)  |  65\nToilet brush and bowl cleaner  |  8\nAll purpose cleaner (1.2L or 1.3L)  |  8\nBroom and dustpan  |  4\n\nWe are also accepting cash donations so that we may buy additional items for the residents who are moving in with few possessions. This work is being done in conjunction with a Mississauga charity called “The Fresh Start Project” which helps individuals transition from a shelter environment to a home. \nVolunteers are needed to help assemble the packages on Saturday\, January 8\, 2022 at 10AM at the church. If you would like to volunteer to help put the packages together\, please email Karen at the church at office@clarksonpc.com. \nThank you so much for your willingness to help love our neighbours\, and spread the HOPE\, PEACE\, JOY and LOVE of God to our community.

SUMMARY:Lent Book Study
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAYS AT 7:00PM  |  Beginning FEBRUARY 24 \nENTERING THE PASSION OF JESUS: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week\nby Amy-Jill Levine \nWe’re joining Presbyterians from across Canada to study this book during Lent. Each Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm we will connect via Zoom.  Everyone is welcome!  Details on how to connect are in the weekly eNewsletter or by emailing Rev. Gale: revgalemacdonald@gmail.com \nYou’ll need to buy a copy of the book.  It is available for e-readers and through various book sellers\, including Good Books on Kerr Street in Oakville.  You can  click on the chapter title for each week to be directed to that week’s study guide. \nFebruary 24 – Introduction & Chapter 1 “Jerusalem: Risking Reputation”\nMarch 3 – Chapter 2 “The Temple: Risking Righteous Anger”\nMarch 10 – Chapter 3 “Teachings: Risking Challenge”\nMarch 17 – Chapter 4 “The First Dinner: Risking Rejection”\nMarch 24 – Chapter 5 “The Last Supper: Risking the Loss of Friends”\nMarch 31 – Chapter 6 “Gethsemane: Risking Temptation“ \nABOUT THE BOOK:\nJesus’ final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation\, danger and the potential for great loss or great reward. \nJesus risked his reputation when he entered Jerusalem in a victory parade. He risked his life when he dared to teach in the Temple. His followers risked everything when they left behind their homes or anointed him with costly perfume. We take risks as we read and re-read these stories\, finding new meanings and new challenges. \nIn “Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week“\, author\, professor and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader\, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience. \nThe book supplies a rich and challenging learning experience for people from various stages in the Christian journey. As Levine draws us deep into the history of last days before Jesus’ crucifixion\, you will find yourself pondering allusions to Jewish texts and Roman history that you had not noticed before\, making connections to other stories in the gospels\, and exploring themes that are as relevant today as they were in Jesus’ time.

SUMMARY:Drive-Thru Toy Drive
DESCRIPTION:We are holding a Drive-Thru Toy Drive on Saturday\, December 5.  You are welcome to drive into the church parking lot with your toy donations.  For a contactless drop-off\, please place your donations in the trunk of your vehicle.  One of our volunteers will be happy to unload them once you arrive. \nIf you prefer that we do the shopping for you\, please send a donation to the church\, either by e-transfer to office@clarksonpc.com\, or via regular mail.  Please mark it “Compass toy drive”. Please have any donations to the church by November 25 in order to give us time to shop. \nIn our discussions with The Compass they noted that they often have an abundance of toys for the 2-6 year olds but not enough toys for the 8-12 year olds. We would like to focus on this age group.
